Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro has 20+ patents in cancer theranostics, including drug nanocarriers that ferry therapies right to target cells. She and her team are investigating the molecular and cellular changes in tumor host interactions in the point at which a dormant tumor switches to a fast-growing one. Tumor progression is dependent on a number of sequential steps. The failure to complete even one can lead to a state of dormant disease, which is both a major contributor to relapse and responsible for the vast majority of cancer deaths. Yet, it’s still one of the most neglected areas in cancer research. Based on her basic pioneering research, Ronit’s laboratory is designing smart probes to diagnose and selectively treat cancer, including many of the most aggressive types.
